ceiling
fans
A ceiling fan can
be one of the most energy reducing appliances you can add to your home.
In the summer, a
ceiling fan generates a cool breeze to enhance the effectiveness of
central air conditioning. Allowing the thermostat to be reset at a
higher-than-normal setting, the gentle breezes can make a room seem
cooler by four degrees or more.
A ceiling fan uses approximately
the same electricity as a 100-watt light bulb - the cost is nominal - just pennies a day. However, the room does not actually become cooler.
It just feels cooler when you feel the breeze.
Ceiling fans should be adjusted for the season. In summer, the
high edge of the tilted blade should go forward first, to force air
downward. You'll know it's right if you feel the fan blowing down when
you stand below it while it's running on high.
During the heating
season, a ceiling fan's direction can be reversed to aid in heat
recovery from the ceiling.
And no other fan
can obtain the same savings as Casablanca fans because of the 15 degree
blade pitch available on many models.
Unique Casablanca
fan controls maximize the energy savings with "comfort-touch"
- responding to temperature changes in the room - increasing or
decreasing speed or turning the unit off to control temperatures.
As
well as contributing to the energy efficiency of a home, a
beautiful ceiling fan can become a focal point of a room, providing
light and ambiance.
